Buchanan Leads First American Ensemble to Perform Missa Maria concertata
On May 3, Buchanan conducted a joint concert with the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble and the Choir of St. David’s, featuring music of 17th-century Vienna. The performance included the Missa Maria concertata, a rarely-heard masterwork of Christoph Strauss.

The Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble joined the Choir of St. David’s under the direction of Douglas Buchanan in Music for Good Friday on April 19, 2019, featuring Heinrich Schütz’s passion narrative Die Sieben Worte Jesu Christi am Kreuz.

On March 28 and 31, 2019, Bessie and Ma, with music by Douglas Buchanan and libretto by Caitlin Vincent, premiered at the University of Connecticut. The performance was the culmination of their Sackler Prize commission, a $25,000 commissioning prize awarded in 2017.
